The proposed MCU for the Pomona IGA extension responds thoughtfully to its location within a designated character area, with the design carefully informed by the Heritage and Character Overlay Code. The architectural expression provides a modern response to the existing historic Art Deco building, drawing on its distinctive forms, proportions and detailing while introducing a fresh identity that supports the future of the site and aligns with Noosa Council’s character objectives.
The project introduces significant new floor space for the supermarket, improving functionality and the customer experience while respecting the established character and charm of the surrounding Pomona township.
Beyond the retail footprint, the design places a strong emphasis on the streetscape and public amenity. Integrated planters along the frontage double as casual seating, creating welcoming, human-scaled spaces that encourage social interaction and engagement with the street.
The result is a considered balance between Art Deco heritage, contemporary retail needs and community-focused design, allowing the IGA to evolve while remaining connected to the architectural identity of Pomona.
